Flight 93 Memorial

The memorial is a platform to contain and materialize the memory of the event. 

The memorial as an open and interactive construction, merge of the individual and the social memories.

The memorial is a living entity, which changes with lighting, with the seasons, the vegetation and with the imprint that society leaves on the park.

The new 40 trees of memory.

40 crystal tubes lit from the inside, each on top of a base with monitors. The monitors show individual memories. The contents are chosen by the relatives of the victims and may be modified at their discretion. 

The 40 equally shaped tubes represent the unity and equality of the fallen; whereas the base with monitors displaying the memories characterizes and personalizes each tube, and so each life is remembered. Every individual represents a story, a family, a net. The vertical crystal elements try to join the earth with the sky. Solid but transparent, they represent permanence and the remembrance. 40 new (species) of trees, chosen by the relatives of each fallen, from 40 different sites are incorporated into the memorial park.

Interactive memory“allow the public to visit the site and express their feelings” It is constructed by the visitant, by the relatives and by those who want to leave their message. They build this dynamic layer that materializes the state of mind at different times.
